Every so often history records certain standouts who rewrite the books, people who changed the game. I have stumbled upon this kind of person, a master of his craft, a true virtuoso. Several years ago, before youtube, before high speed internet I witnessed a clip of a standout young man ROCKING the drums to Metallica’s “Sad But True.” I found IT! For your enjoyment, here is Metallica drummer. A few things to note as you watch in bewilderment.
1. Accuracy: This guy has clearly spent HOURS not only listening to Metallica, but setting out to know which Toms and Cymbals Lars Ulrich (Metallica’s actual drummer) originally recorded. The guys accuracy is impeccable, even the location of the drums (or lack thereof) are eerily similar to the location of Lars’ actual drums.
2. Flare: Note that this guy doesn’t just set out to lay down the beats to the track, he goes about it with PASSION. Flailing limbs, broken sticks, and if you look close enough the occasional drum stick spin in the high hat hand. All of this passion, backed up by one INCREDIBLE pony tail. Honestly, would he really be a true Metallica fan without a dirty Mullet?
3. Similarities to Billy Madison: Part of the reason movies like Napoleon Dynamite and Billy Madison are so effective is because its believable. We all knew, know or at least know of a Napoleon Dynamite. And how many of us know of the underachieving 35 year old man living in his parents house with not a goal or aspiration to be found. This guy’s surrounding get me wondering if we aren’t dealing with a Billy Madison here? It seems to be mid day, in a moderately nice living room (remember, this was the late 90s) on a piano bench). Could we be dealing with another Billy Madison here? “Son, what did you do today?” “Ummm, rocked out with Hetfeild and Hammet in our living room, THAT’s WHAT!”
Without further ado, I present to you, “Metallica Drummer”… Enjoy.
and he is the reason Rock Band now exists!
This just made my day. See if you can find the one where he is air drumming while jumping off the high dive at the west Edmonton mall from muchmusic.
